Memorial Day

It was my privilege to offer the invocation at the New Providence Memorial Day Parade.  Here is the text of the prayer I offered for that occasion:

Heavenly Father,
We give you humble thanks as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We also remember the families of our troops. We ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes, and we pray that your peace, provision, and strength will fill their lives.

May the members of our armed forces be supplied with courage to face each day and may they trust in the Lord's mighty power to accomplish each task.

And finally, we give you praise for the liberty and opportunity that is ours in the United States of America.  Guide our leaders, protect our people and lead us in the ways of righteousness and justice.

May our celebrations this day remind us of both our blessings and our responsibilities as citizens of this nation.
Through Christ our Lord,  Amen.
